2. Organize the Closet: Extend your decluttering into the closet. After you have eliminated those items you no longer wear, have your closet organized for you. If you were good at this, it would already be organized, so seriously consider bringing in an expert.

You will be surprised how a closet company can reorganize the available space so you can actually find things. It’s very liberating to get rid of things. It’s very gratifying to be able to always find things.

When in the heat of the moment it’s okay, even preferable, to let the clothes fly and fall where they may. But, when sanity returns, make sure everything gets put back where it belongs. It may be hard to think of Ben Franklin in this environment, but he did have some good advice for keeping things clean and neat: “A place for everything, and everything in it’s place.”

1. Declutter Everything: I met a woman who wanted new bedroom draperies. I actually had to jump from place to place to get to the windows to measure. Not only was every surface covered in stuff, but so was the floor! How much romance do you think took place in that bedroom? If you’re not using something any more, get rid of it.

If an item no longer serves you, clear it out. If you have books and magazines lying around, get rid of the magazines and put the books into bookcases, or donate them to your favorite charity. Let’s face it; if you haven’t read them by now, you will likely never get around to it.

As another Valentines Day recedes into the past, it’s reminder of sweethearts and romance still lingers. Soon we will be back to our old, boring ways. This is when many couples slide right back into a state of putting themselves and their needs last while the frenzy of every day life swirls around them. Before you allow yourself to fall back into that regimen, take a moment or two or ten to consider extending the romance of Valentines Day by planning out a bedroom makeover to make the room a place where you can instantly unwind, find solace during the day as well as the night, and even move you and your special someone to a little canoodling along the way.

Let’s face it. When you have children, especially little ones, your needs seem to always drop to the bottom of the family priority list. This even extends to the bedrooms. Often the children’s rooms are decorated before Mom and Dad’s. Well, now it’s time to think about yourself and your partner. Now it’s time to do something special by transforming the master bedroom into your own personal oasis. Make that an oasis for two. A place where you can recharge your batteries and reconnect.
